Following people in Google Reader

This is my second post about using Google Reader.

One useful aspect of Google Reader is that you can "follow" people in Google Reader, as well as subscribing to RSS feeds on a particular topic. For example a leader of the profession might be a useful person to follow. This following of people links through to a person's Google Profile. If they choose to share their profile publicly via a Google Reader profile, you can find them by name. You just need to search for their name using Reader's People Search. What comes up in the "follow" feed will be different from just subscribing to someone's blog via RSS. For example if they "like" a particularity post written by a third party you will see that too.

To search for someone to follow:

  • click the Browse for stuff in your left hand sidebar in Google Reader.
  • click the Search tab.
  • then click Find people sharing in Reader
  • finally, type in the name of the person you're searching for under the heading Find people to follow.
